Kigali Genocide Memorial

Our group of almost 70 people from Tanzania visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial as part of our travel itinerary in Kigali. It was a deeply emotional and unforgettable experience for all of us. Walking through the memorial and learning about the history of the civil conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi was heartbreaking. The stories explained how neighbors turned against each other during the genocide, and how countless innocent people lost their lives. Hearing about the brutal killings of children, women, and elders made the experience especially painful and difficult to process. One of the most moving and sorrowful moments was visiting the mass graves. Seeing the resting place of so many victims reminded us of the scale of the tragedy. The memorial exhibits, including the display of skulls of the victims, brought a very real and personal understanding of the suffering that took place. Although it was a very sad visit, it was also an important and powerful lesson. The memorial teaches the value of peace, unity, and reconciliation. For those of us coming from countries that have never experienced such a devastating war, it was a strong reminder of how important it is to protect peace and prevent hatred from dividing communities. We left the memorial with heavy hearts, but also with a deeper respect for the resilience of the Rwandan people and a stronger belief in the importance of peace for all nations.

It was great visiting the memorial where we got to see the heartbreaking history of the genocide and cherish the ones who have gone as a result. The place is easy to navigate, the staff is more than welcoming and I really appreciate this experience.

This was such a sombering experience and would recommend everyone to pay a visit atleast once in their life. It shows the fragility of life and the consequences of actions that can't be undone and are felt till date.
